Raffles Arrival in Singapore

Singapore was named from the Sanskrit word Sinapura, meaning Lion City sometime between the 11th and 14th century. Some say that this was an error because tigers, not lions, lived in the region. And its also because Sanila Utama arrived in Singapore, the first animal he saw was a "singa" in Malay. So he named it Singapore.Thomas Raffles was the founder of Singapore and Colonel William was the first Resident of Singapore, and also known as the body guard of Thomas Raffles. When Raffles arrived in Singapore,he did not bath for six months since Thomas Raffles and Colonel William left England. Then, all of a sudden a native came and she was washing her clothes.Raffles asked her"What's the name of this grotty little island?"

After that,Raffles was impatient so he called his guard to steal away his stuff .Then she told Raffles what it is called "SINGAPORE!"From that day onwards, most of the things were named after him.His statue were in Singapore. So this is the story of Raffles.
